Enrollment Information

Thank you for your interest in High Point Academy. We’re excited the search for a quality education led you to us. HPA strives to meet the needs of all our students regardless of abilities, desires or needs. We are a kindergarten through 12th-grade school built on the principles of honor, integrity, and service. We are a public charter school, funded mostly by the state and do not charge tuition.

Our teachers challenge students in an applied learning style of instruction with an emphasis in S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math). Through a partnership with family and community, each student will be challenged to achieve their highest potential academically, socially and personally.

High Point Academy offers a growing athletic program, including volleyball, cheerleading, cross country, wrestling, basketball, and softball. Our teams compete in Region I-A of the South Carolina High School League. Students also have the option of many after-school clubs and activities.

We look forward to your visit and sharing our school with you.

Applications

Applications may be completed online by clicking the link. Once completed the application will go to the appropriate department. HPA participates in a continuous enrollment process, meaning prospective students may apply at any time throughout the year. If space is not available at the time an application is received the student will be placed on any applicable waiting list. These applications are dated, time stamped and placed in the order they are received. Once the school year has begun, administrators may choose to fill openings based on availability.

Any prospective student who wishes to participate in the “Open Enrollment” process for the 2018-2019 lottery must apply or re-apply. Applications for the 2018-2019 school year lottery need to be completed between January 8 and March 13. All applications must be received on or before March 13th to be eligible for the lottery. Applications received after the deadline will be placed at the end of any applicable waiting list in the order in which they were received.

If you list siblings on the application, you must still submit a separate application for each child you wish to enroll.

PLEASE NOTE:

Waiting lists DO NOT carry over from year-to-year and are only valid for the school year in which the student has applied.  If a student is not accepted for the current school year and remains on the waiting list, they will need to reapply for the following school year.

The Lottery

Under federal law, charter schools must admit students through a random selection process if the number of applications for a grade or class exceeds the number of available spaces. If the number of applications does not exceed the number of available spaces, a lottery is not required.

The HPA lottery will be held on March 25 of every school year. If this day falls on a weekend, the lottery will occur on the first school day following the weekend. After the lottery has taken place students will receive notification by letter within six days regarding their application status. Remaining students will be put on the waiting list, according to the order in which they were drawn. A student who turns in a late application will be placed on the waiting list in order of the date in which their application was received. If a parent wishes to appeal a decision of admission based on any reason other than the lottery, they may submit a written appeal to the South Carolina Public Charter School District.

Priority Enrollment

HPA will give priority enrollment to siblings of a current student enrolled and attending, children of employees, and siblings of students who, within the last six years, attended the school for at least one complete academic year. Additionally, siblings of students accepted through the lottery process are afforded priority enrollment status. Priority enrollment status does not guarantee any student admission to HPA, as acceptance remains based on available space in each applicable grade.
