HPA Graduation 2021
Dr. Bricker HPA Golf Cart
May 27, 2021

SPARTANBURG, SC – If you have ever been to the High Point Academy (HPA) campus during the school day, you have probably seen him drive the halls on his golf cart, greeting students and staff; and over the past year, reminding them to pull up those masks. After 53 years serving public schools, Superintendent Dr. Brodie Bricker will deliver the commencement address at HPA’s graduation ceremony Friday, May 28, 2021, before he officially retires in June.

Dr. Bricker came out of retirement to join HPA in 2019 after a tenured career as a teacher, coach, administrator, consultant and author. Bricker has been recognized and honored at the local, state, and national level for his work in school management and administration – much of it in Greenville and Anderson Counties. He also served as an adjunct professor at Furman University and Clemson University for School Leadership. Dr. Bricker earned his Ph.D. in Administration from the University of South Carolina and holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from Bob Jones University.

Dr. Bricker is probably known best for his “Brickerisms” – words of wisdom he shares throughout the school day. Encouraged by his colleagues, he compiled them in a book, “First Period Starts at Home. Teachable Moments for School Leaders, Teachers and Parents.” It includes quotes about honesty, leadership, character and education. Former Governor of South Carolina and U.S. Secretary of Education Dick Riley wrote a review which appears on the back cover and says, “His life has been a journey in the world of education, and we are fortunate that he has shared his philosophy through these wonderful vignettes.”
On Friday, he will share them at HPA's graduation ceremony.
