Oct. Middle School Spotlight
It’s more than just the lessons from a textbook for this month’s Middle School Spotlight. This is GB McDaniel’s 14th year in education and his sixth year teaching math and coaching wrestling at High Point Academy. At the end of the school year, he hopes students are better at math and become better individuals along the way.

Coach McDaniel tells his students, “You will learn as much about life in my classroom as you do about math,” a message that’s as constant as the equations he teaches. Growing up, it was the teachers and coaches in his life that helped keep him on track. “I recognize that kids sometimes may listen to a teacher or coach more than their parents,” said McDaniel. “I think of teaching and coaching as a mentor more than just an educator. To me, it goes beyond the classroom and the wrestling room. Teaching isn’t a job to me, it’s a calling, and I take that responsibility very seriously.”

One of the reasons Coach McDaniel loves what he does is because he says no two days are the same. “The students make my classroom unique because they make every class different. Middle school is never boring.”

Congratulations on being the Middle School Teacher Spotlight for October!
