Updated CDC and SC DHEC Guidelines

January 3, 2022

Dear HPA Family,

We hope you all had a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable winter break! We are excited to start a new year and new semester together.

We are continuing to monitor information from local, state, and federal authorities regarding the COVID-19 virus as it relates to school operations. We remain committed to providing a school environment that is as clean and safe as possible for our students and staff while operating as close to normal as we safely can.

Recently, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (SC DHEC) updated their recommendations for isolation and quarantining after exposure to the COVID-19 virus. In an effort to help keep more students engaged in in-person learning, HPA will adopt the guidelines recently updated and recommended by the CDC and SC DHEC.

High Point Academy will follow the guidelines below for the isolation and quarantine of students exposed to COVID-19:

  • If your student tests positive for COVID-19, he/she must isolate at home for at least 5 days, regardless of vaccination status. If your student exhibits no symptoms after 5 days, he/she may return to school but must wear a mask while in school for the next 5 days.

  • If your student has close contact with someone with COVID-19 and has been fully vaccinated, your student does not need to quarantine but should get tested for COVID-19 on the fifth day after exposure. While in school, your student must wear a mask for 10 days after exposure.

  • If your student has close contact with someone with COVID-19 and has not been fully vaccinated, your student must quarantine at home for 5 days and should get tested for COVID-19 on the fifth day after exposure. If your student exhibits no symptoms after 5 days, he/she may return to school but must wear a mask while in school for the next 5 days.

In any case, if your child develops symptoms of COVID-19, we recommend that your child stay home and get tested for COVID-19. Symptoms of COVID-19 commonly include fever or chills, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, fatigue, body aches, new loss of taste or smell, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea.

Our highest priority is the safety of our students, staff, and their families. We encourage everyone to remain vigilant for symptoms of COVID-19 and to be empathic and respectful to those affected. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve you and your student(s). Thank you for your support of High Point Academy.

Sincerely,

The HPA Team
