Fine Arts

We are incredibly proud of High Point Academy’s Fine Arts program, offered to kindergarten through 12th-grade students. We have a Performing Arts Center which seats 1250 visitors, two dance studios, and a band room, and you will find the many talents of our visual arts students on murals wrapping around the high school hallways.

Each year in our Performing Arts Center, we also host two major theatrical productions – a play in the fall and a musical in the spring, as well as winter and spring concerts that feature the musical magic of our chorus, band, and piano students. The designs of our art students are also featured throughout the year.

Features:

  • Chorus (Middle & High School)
  • Concert Band (Middle & High School)
  • Dance (Elementary, Middle, & High)
  • Guitar (High School)
  • Jazz Band (High School)
  • Music (Elementary)
  • Piano (Elementary, Middle, & High)
  • Theatre (Middle & High School)
  • Ukelele (Elementary)
  • Visual Arts (Drawing, Painting, & Sculpting)

Our Fine Arts program is designed to meet the needs of individual learners and progressively move the student toward mastery of the art form, as indicated in the South Carolina educational standards for Visual and Performing Arts. Therefore, regardless of post-graduation plans, all students will be subject to high-level performance, technique, and theory expectations.

Students need 7 Elective credits to earn a diploma. All Fine Arts courses will go toward satisfying the graduation requirement for Electives. For entrance to four-year college programs, students need 1 Fine Arts credit.

Placement in Fine Arts courses is determined by a combination of auditions, portfolios, completion of prerequisite courses, and teacher recommendations. Placement methods vary by grade, course level, and course type. A parent conference is required before a recommended placement can be changed.
