Katie Bowman
Throughout her life, Katie Bowman has been dedicated to sharing her passion for dance. She started dancing as soon as she could walk and began competing at the age of eight, continuing through her senior year of high school. During her competitive years, she earned numerous awards, including Teen Miss Nexstar, Dancer of the Year Finalist, Encore’s Judges Award for Breath of Life, Epic’s Judges Award for Perfect Lines, and Dance Maker’s Performance of the Year. Katie has trained in ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary, and hip-hop. She furthered her education at Columbia College, where she performed, choreographed, and served as a mainstage producer for the Columbia College Dance Company. She also took on leadership roles as the company’s public relations and community service coordinator. Her coursework included dance history, dance pedagogy, dance composition, dance aesthetics, dance analysis and patterning, arts integration, and more. During her time at Columbia College, she received several honors, including Libby Patenaude’s First-Year Honor, the Sylvia Davis Honor, Dance Lab’s Improviser of the Year, the Order of the Purple Seal, and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance Education in 2021. Her commitment to learning and growth continues as she pursues a Master’s in Dance Studies at the University of South Carolina to deepen her expertise. Katie began choreographing for school musicals in 2022, debuting with Into the Woods at High Point Academy. Since then, she has choreographed High Point Academy’s productions of Frozen, Shrek, and The Lightning Thief. She has also collaborated with Market Theatre on productions of Shakespeare’s The Tempest and Hands on a Hardbody. In recognition of her dedication and contributions to arts education, Katie Bowman was honored as High Point Academy’s High School Teacher of the Year for 2024-2025.
