Self-Contained SPED Teacher (6-8)

Marsha Edens

A Spartanburg, SC native, Ms. Marsha Edens brings both heart and a wide range of experience to her role as a special education teacher at HPA. Before joining HPA in 2023, Edens worked for Spartanburg County School District 7 as a GED instructor, educating students aged 17-65. Her experiences have shaped her ability to connect with students of all ages and abilities as the teacher of the South Carolina High School Employability Track here at HPA. As a career-changer, Edens is a certified K–12 Multi-Categorical Special Education teacher through the University of South Carolina’s CCAP program. She also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Marketing from the University of South Carolina-Upstate; as well as, a Master’s degree in Biblical Studies from Carolina College of Theology. In addition, Edens is currently pursuing a second Master’s Degree in Secondary Special Education and Transition Services through the University of Kansas. Edens calling to special education began when her son was born in 2002 having significant special needs. She understands what it’s like to be on both sides of the IEP table, as parent and educator. That empathy drives her work every day as she partners with students and their families. Named HPA’s Middle School Teacher of the Year for 2024–2025, Edens is dedicated to helping each student grow and thrive. When not in the classroom, she can be found spending time with her family, serving in her church, watching Gamecock football or taking care of her 3 dogs, 9 cats and 5 chickens.
